Most electrical faults are hidden behind a faceplate or inside a wall. The only way to know an installation is safe is to test it and read the results, so that is where every job starts.

I'm Joseph Lawrence. I've been qualified for twelve years and served in the military before working for myself. I work alone from West Wickham, and the person who quotes your job is the person who does it.
How much, how long, and will it make a mess. The honest answers, before you ring.
Most electrical faults are hidden behind a faceplate or inside a wall. The only way to know an installation is safe is to test it and read the results, so that is where every job starts. I explain what I find in plain terms before I touch anything.
Small jobs are often priced from a few photos the same day. Bigger jobs get a written quote after a visit, before anything starts. The fixed from-prices are on the prices page.
Small jobs such as extra sockets or a new light are usually done in a few hours. A consumer unit replacement is usually a day. Rewires and kitchens are planned around your build, and the timing is set out in your quote.
Most small jobs leave nothing behind but a new faceplate. Bigger jobs can mean chasing cable into plaster or lifting floorboards, and your quote says exactly where before I start.
After a visit, or from photos for small jobs. Always in writing. Your invoice matches the written quote, and if anything changes during the job I explain why and agree it with you first.
I work alone from West Wickham, with a couple of trusted electricians I bring in on larger jobs. The person who quotes your job is the person who does it.
Almost no electrician round here publishes a price. Mine are on the prices page, and everything else gets a written quote before any work starts.

Longer jobs such as rewires are invoiced after first fix and after second fix. Short jobs at the end.
You get the test results and a written record of what was done.
The best way to judge an electrician is the work left behind.
An elderly customer had been told by another firm that her house needed a complete rewire, because bulbs kept blowing. I tested every circuit. The readings were safe. Instead of a rewire, her old fuse board was upgraded to a modern consumer unit with up-to-date protection.
What I did:
She kept her walls, her decorating and thousands of pounds.
Old fuse boards replaced with one RCBO board and surge protection
Singles swapped for doubles either side of a bed and behind a TV, before decorating
A weatherproof double by the back door, so no more extension leads through the house
Short clips from recent jobs, from first fix to lights on.

No. Quotes from photos and quote visits are free.
Small jobs usually take a few hours, a consumer unit replacement usually a day, and a rewire of an empty three-bedroom house one to two weeks. Your quote gives the timing for your job.
Small jobs leave little or nothing behind. Rewires and new circuits mean chasing cable into plaster and lifting some floorboards, and your quote says exactly where before work starts.
For a visit or a job inside the property, yes, or a key holder. For outside work, not always.
I only call a circuit safe once it has been tested and the readings are within the limits in BS 7671, and I tell you what was tested.
Because the final price depends on the property: how many circuits, where the cable runs, and what is found when the old installation is opened up. You always get the price in writing before work starts.
